Default Oil plug help

I just bought my first boat. A 1998 Mariah 190Z Shabah. The blower switch just stopped working and it looks like the oil may be leaking.

1. Is there a seperate plug on the back of the engine where the oil may drain out? I was told the oil was changed and was full but it is empty. Where would I look? I can't find any type of owener's manual online.

2. I checked the connections on the blower switch and they look fine. What else would cause the blower to stop working?

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Marci

    hi Marci

Welcome aboard! There is a drain plug at the bottom of the engine but most people use a vacuum or mechanical pump & remove it thru the dipstick tube. If your oil was leaking from the engine you would have a bilge full of oil. I suspect someone didn't put the right amount of oil into the motor when they changed it. Start by adding a quart and see if that starts to show on the dipstick.

The blowers do have a tendency to fail. You said you've checked the connections at the switch so now check them back at the blower itself. Undo the connections & clean the terminals before re-securing them. If you have a multi-meter/volt meter then attach it to the 2 connections at the blower while someone operates the switch. If you have 12+ volts there then it sounds like the blower may need to be replaced. It's not something you want to operate the boat without so this needs to be resolved asap.

Thankw when they gave me th boat they gave me two plugs. I assumed one was the drain plug and put that in. I don't know what the other plug would be for. I don't know if it is a spare or if I was suppose to put that in somewhere before I put it in the water. I am not sure what to do

We're the plugs identical? They wouldn't of handed you an oil drain plug so i suspect they're both bilge plugs. I'm assuming you didn't ask what they were for? Can you take a pic & post it?
