Default Greetings and a question from new Mariah owner

Hello everyone. I just purchased a 1993 MX19 and I am very impressed with the quality, fit and finish of the boat. It has held up quite nicely over the years. This boat has a 4.3LX engine and I've discovered the following problem I hope someone may shed some light on. While cruising comfortably at around 2800-3000 rpm's on occasion the engine will lose power (like it's going to quit) then starts running again. It hasn't displayed this behavior at other power settings (nor during the test drive ). Problem seems to come about after hitting some wake. Also, on occasion the boat has quit when brought to idle abruptly and then will only run at high rpm's (won't idle). I am suspecting a problem with the choke plate? Any comments/advice greatly appreciated. TIA

Cheers.

    Congrats on the Mariah!

I'm not terribly familiar with carbs, but I know others here will chime in. First thing I'd do is change the fuel filter. It could be starving the engine at certain times, especially when hitting waves or abruptly changing speeds (possibly dislodging particles).

Hope you find the problem! Post some pictures when you have the chance!

Thanks for the reply Ryan. First thing I did was replace all fluids and filters. Fuel filter was pretty nasty. I was hoping the clean filter and fuel would cure the problem. Will get some pictures soon.
