I have loved my 2006 sx18 with the 4.3 merc since I purchased it exactly 3 years ago this week, but i discovered a HUGE problem this weekend after a day on the lake.

I had it in my driveway and had the carpet out giving it a nice cleaning and when i moved to the seats I realized that the back middle headrest had rotted all to heck underneath. I have contacted Mariah and they have asked for some pics. I am hoping that they will fix the problem.

I brought the design issue up with my dealer last year. They informed me that the ever since the 2006 they have changed the design to have integrated headrests on the backbench. I am amazed that they would have not thought of this prior to that because of the fact that the back bench would be the location getting the wettest.

Hopefully they will take care of it for you. You would think Sea Fox would know better, must have been trying to cut a corner.

That's a shame to hear. Hopefully they'll rectify the situation for you.

In Sea Fox's defense, they are probably still working out the bugs in their interiors. When they redesigned them, they started over from scratch. And there are a lot of mistakes to be made with boat construction, and sometimes certain things get overlooked. It happens, and as long as they make it right for you, it's all good!

    Keep us updated!

I have the exact same boat, my middle head rest does get a lot of punishment due to its design and placement. I find it a little tricky to keep clean underneath and if it is left outside with out cover all sorts of crap accumulates under it.
Something for all owners of boats with this back rest design to look at each time you clean the boat!
Keep us up to date on what SeaFox does for you Ryan.
If you live close enough to them they may just look after you with a new seat!!
Now THAT would be great service backup, right?

Yes - I would love for them to replace it with the newly integrated back bench/sun deck. It has always been a pain to clean and I did not expect it to rot out.

I am about a 4 hour drive from the headquarters. I am MORE than willing to drive down for that.

Pictures are sent and the dealer is forwarding them to Mariah.....now the waiting game begins....I hope that they are able to do something and feel that they really should because it is a design flaw.

If you have digital pics, can you post them up here so we can see?

Looks bloody ordinary to me. I will be keeping a real close eye on my head rests after seeing this pic.
Even the type of the ply looks cheap to me, do you know if it is treated marine ply?.
Also looks like a join for some reason. Why would they do that?

I just got a call from my dealer and Mariah will be sending them THREE new headrests for the back bench - I can either have my dealer put them in ($75 dollar per hour/no estimate yet) OR I can do it myself....I will have to take a look at it this weekend and see how easy it would be to replace them myself.
