Here I am as a brand new member of the Mariah Club. So I wish to say howdy to all other members and hope to get some great help. My wife and I just bought a 1991 Mariah 1900Z and love this boat. Even though we have not had it in water yet due to a bad coupler. It appears to have been caused by the port side motor mount came loose from the fiberglass support and chewed out the holes. I will be pulling the 4.3 V6 as soon as the weather gets better. And try to find a way to repair the fiberglass under the motor mount. Wish me luck as I am new to boat repair but I have plenty of other related repair knowledge. :-) Any advice on the motor mount problem is greatly appreciated. I am ready to go boating when it warms up here in Iowa. My user name is GetnAway which is the name we gave our new 1900 Z.

after you pull the motor and drive(pull first), drill some cores on the mounts and get a feel for the structures. if that are in good shape, you can fill and seal. also, while you have it out rebuild the carb. trust me you'll be happy you did.

Do you know if I would be able to add a piece of stainless steel or alum under the fiberglass support to give it strength? It has been so nasty weather wise I have not been able to do a full investigation to the mount problem but the port side mount has two pieces of 3/4" x 3" x 1/8" thick plates added on top. To me it looks like a BANDAID fix. I wish I knew how to add a photo of the mount. I am sure that you would agree it is not a good fix for the problem.

you have to fix it right.its why the coupler when out.there is a guy on you tube that put together a series on fixing the whole stringer and engine mounts system on a sea ray. his name is friscobob.you will have to look through the series for the right episode. it doesn't look hard but a little time consuming.also while you in there, look at the transome.these boats used good marine grade wood so the damage is probably limited, but you have to make sure if you plan on making it a labor of love. I have a 95 that I love so will never sell it but it's what I like to do.

I agree I want it done right for sure. I have watched FriscoBoater's videos on YouTube and I will have to go back to watch that episode again. I remember it was quite a detailed series by Jay from Frisco, TX

keep us informed and maybe take a video.we may need the info on our older Mariahs.great luck.remember you can take your measurements off the good mount.that will help a lot.

Welcome to the club. Make sure you purchase a good quality alignment tool to ensure you don't take out your new coupler...once you are finished with your mount repairs.

Hi Steve and thanks for bringing that up as I have a tip to share on that issue.

But speaking of the alignment tool which I did buy!!! Before I removed the motor I wanted to check the alignment for a reference. I could not even get the Merc tool into the striped out coupler. So I used a 3' long very straight 1 inch hardwood dowel and inserted it into the coupler. I found that the motor is way, way too high in the front. The dowel makes a great first test for alignment. Also if it is so far out of alignment use the dowel to get the motor close enough to then use the mercury approved tool.

I have four boats I am working on that need outdrives gone through and Gimbal repairs. So I bought all the Mercury tools for Outdrive and Gimbal service. I have more money in tools & manuals now than I paid for my 91 Mariah 1900Z :-(

that's a marina they should know better. the problem is that people just want to fix things just to be able to sell things.
