Default Need Help IDing This

I crawled in beside my 5.7 on the port side and found a small metal bar (about 3" long) lying by the trim/tilt pump. What I find interesting is that there was the same kind of bar in among other odds and ends in the glove box when I bought the boat. Can anyone help me identify this and determine where it comes from and what its for?

Thanks

It reminds me of the pin in a door knob , but to long.
Something to investigate further for sure.
Hopefully one of the other members has a idea as to what it is.
    Sorry I ain't much help

    Well ,
I went thru the specialty tools manual for merc alpha setups and there isn't anything there that even looks close. I was hoping it was a shimming tool or something like that.
I'll keep searching.........got me interested now

Just had my boat in to the Marina for winterization and asked the mechanic if he know what this was. He informed me that it was a pin for the Exhaust Shutters in the exhaust system. I had the shutters replaced last fall and this pin must have been lying there all the time and just now bounced out of hiding to where I could see it. At least now I know its nothing to worry about.

    Nice info!
    Nice work.
After looking , it does make sense. Parts diagrams only show the whole flapper assembly.
    Thanks for letting us know.
