Default Chariot Trailer Clear Coating

Hey folks. My 1996 red Chariot trailer was looking a little chalky and oxidized. Wax made it look OK for a while, but the chalk always returned. I don't know how long it will last, but I just clear coated most of it using DupliColor acrylic enamel and it looks almost like new. The red paint is glossy and looks wet even though the paint is now dry. After about a week I will wax it again.

Because it was clear coat over-spray was not much of an issue, and I sprayed right over all of the cool decals without masking them. Has anybody else done this? Any idea if it will last?

That sounds like a good solution. It has been about a month since your post, how is it holding up?

    Smile Trailer Clear Coat

Since you were kind enough to ask, I waxed the new clear coat about a week after applying it and it was then very slick. I have had my boat out once afterword and dunked the trailer into Pine Lake in LaPorte, IN. Because of the fresh paint and wax, all the water ran off without leaving any spots and I probably won't need to wash the trailer but once this season. The coating still looks new, but be advised that my boat and trailer are always docked in the garage, so it gets little or no exposure to the weather.

I have my doubts about the new clear coat holding up under outside winter storage for sure. But at least my trailer is no longer an embarrassment at the launch ramp.

    Best regards,
