Just curious what home surveillance systems other people may be using out there. Looking around I'm finding a lot of mixed reviews. Sounds like most the stuff in my price range is cheap china crap. Maybe 4 cameras. Need good night vision, like infrared.
Car got busted into IN my driveway a few nights ago. Neighbors have been getting fuel siphoned. Windows are getting busted. Sheriff said if your doors are locked they break the glass. He said game cameras work good. Neighborhood wants to set up a bait car and get them on camera. Im on board.

Sheriff said they are most likely from the next town 15 min away. They take the registration to get an address of the car they break into. Then they watch it. When the car is gone they break in the house. They busted two groups of them. One by home video an one at a red box using stolen credit.

I got a infrared , night vision , eyeball reading , heat seeking 45 auto.........and 2 Australian Sheperds!
That's "my" prefered system Moto.
Seriously though , I think game cameras would do the trick nicely. Good luck and keep out a sharp eye. Those kind of asses are usually found right in front of you. Someone you don't always see around your neighborhood is someone you need to watch like a hawk.
Hope they catch em' real soon.

I like the dog idea. I have a young German Shepherd. He has been getting progressively more an more territorial. I don't need him getting out of hand though. I work with him everyday and he is basically with me the whole day too. Hard for him to patrol the front though, he sleeps inside when its cold and he has a 1/3 an acre fences out back he roams. He sounds mean as hell but I don't need the thieves to have a reason to poison my buddy...

I'm with ya on that. My 2 are just like my kids. But they sure wake me up when there is a "booger" around the house.

Heat sinking 45 auto? That is awesome! As far as cameras go, that technology hasn't changed much in the last few years. I used to sell some of that stuff and the crazy expensive stuff isn't far off from the cheaper stuff. I always found SAMs club to have decent cheap systems. Of course if money is no object, you can go with laser triggers and crazy stuff like that. I would just make sure that your DVR and camera is motioned triggered. That way you aren't cycling thru hours and hours of recorded nothing! Plus it saves a ton of data storage.

Chris' thought about making sure everything is motion triggered is a good idea. I would likely combine that with motion lights mounted up high enough that they are not easily accessible so that when the game camera / motion activated camera is triggered it gets a decent photo. Hopefully the boys from Sh!tsville will smile.

Another thought is 'fake' car alarm stickers. 'The Source' (Radio Shack) up here sells them but i've never seen them advertised so i dont think its well known. They might just slow the thieves down a bit.

I actually have a neighbour who has his home alarm system hooked up to a stereo sound system. The noise that 2 Rottweilers can make is awesome....

Awesome! I also like the automatic flame throwers that activate with a perimeter sensor, but there might be law or something against that!

Don't you guys over there have the right to shoot people n stuff if their up to no good on you property
But on a serious note, I had a petrol disc cutter nicked out of the back of my van last year, My customer caught the whole thing on his CCTV
still got the clip somewhere....lol

Well I'll sleep better now. They couple doing the crime spree was busted last night! Thanks to a private surveillance system AND the shoe print photos from my yard!! I'd post the link to the web page in the Chieftain but apparently one has to be a member to view online now. There was a pretty good write up on it. They had been at it for some time. And as the sheriff said, they lived 25-30 min from me not to mention a block away from the fire station I work at from time to time which made me wonder if they had been following me home knowing we work a 24/48 schedule... Anyway, the gal involved got arrested for her child, trespass, credit fraud. She was a heroin addict and was breast feeding her baby... The paper claims the baby was 3 lbs and in custody of one of the local hospitals. The dude was just a 26 year old dirt bag drug addict as well. Charged with more than her+ no bail.
Still wanting a camera system though.

And yes Andy, one can shot another here. It is different from state to state. I'm in Colo which is in turmoil with gun control as we speak. They pretty much have to have you cornered in a "life or death" situation. They use that term loosely. What may be life an death for you may just be an adrenaline rush for someone else.
From what I have been told Florida is the place to not mess around in. You can be shot for trespass regardless if you are in someones home or not and the law will side with the owner. (Especially if there is only one aide of the store to tell if you know what I mean!)
