Default I'm Shaving my head!!!

You heard it right, I'm shaving my head!!! But for a great cause. Some of you know, I am one of the leaders of my son's cub scout pack. Myself and some of the other leaders are shaving our heads at a St. Baldricks event on March 16, at Fourth Street Live, Louisville, Ky. St. Baldricks organization raises money for childhood cancer research. St. Baldricks participants shave their heads in support of the thousands of children who lose their hair each year fighting cancer. Last year, St. Baldricks raised over 12 million dollars for childhood cancer research. This year the goal is 17 million. Worldwide, more than 160,000 children are diagnosed with cancer each year. While advances have saved many children, childhood cancer still claims the lives of more children in the US than any other disease - more than diabetes, asthma, congenital anomalies, cystic fibrosis and AIDS - combined! Myself and the other scout leaders are shaving our heads as a demonstration to the scouts that when people come together, anything is possible. Even something as simple as shaving your head can make a huge difference. If you wish to learn more about St. Baldricks go to their web-site at http://www.stbaldricks.org/

The link below is my St. Baldricks donation page. Please help me raise money in support of childhood cancer. You can donate online.
http://stbaldricks.org/referral.html?Ref=L3BhcnRpY2lwYW50cy9zaGF2ZWVfaW5m by5odG1sP1BhcnRpY2lwYW50S2V5PTIwMDh8MzAzNzc=

My picture is posted on my donation page. It is not a great picture. I will post an after picture of better quality. The phrase "bald is beautiful" was not meant for me. That's why God gave me hair. Please, if you can donate on my behalf, do so. I can't think of a better cause than the fight against childhood cancer.

Thanks in advance,
Vic

We don't normally allow postings on the forum requesting money and donations, but we felt that this was for such a good cause that you all would be interested in an opportunity to help out. Vic contacted us prior to posting, explaining what his intentions were, and both Chris and I agreed that it would be a great thing to share with you all.

So if you think you can help out, please donate. Good luck in collecting donations Vic. Everyone appreciates what you are doing

    Hi Vic

Fighting cancer is always worth it, particularly when it involves kids. Best of luck and make sure you upload a couple of pics !

My mom and my cousins wife were battling boobie cancer last year.

Both are done the treatments and my cousins wife is back to work already. Mom is done treatments and is just in recovering phase. The school boards are trying to get my mom back into the classroom for about a month of part-time work so she can get back into the groove of things for next school year (she teaches kindergarten).

Oh.. and the receptionist at my work, her mom is currently goin through chemothearpy for boobie cancer as well.

The best thing we could do for them, was support them and be there for them. They had a LOT of rough days..umm.. weeks, but they both pulled through it.

Chemo treatments just kicks your bodies ..umm butt. There is a group that my mom is going to be attending for others with " Chemo Brain ".

    Vic,

That's a great thing you're doing for a great cause. I applaud you and all other supporters - be looking for my support in the next day or two.

My mom also had breast cancer. She had a double mastectomy and all the treatments that go along with it. She was cleared of all cancer a few months later. About a year later, she was diagnosed with spots on her liver and lung. Went through all the treatments again, and was eventually "cleared". About another year later, she had spots on her spinal cord and liver again. She's currently going through treatment... yet again!!!

It's a terrible, tough battle. Ryan said it - it kicks your butt! Just when you're told it's gone and everything is back to normal, well... guess what.

I try doing anything I can for people suffering from cancer. I hate to admit, but I probably wouldn't know the suffering or mental anguish people go through and wouldn't do the donations or Walk for Life or anything else if this didn't happen to my mother. It truly is a rough battle, and kids are the worst to see go through it.

Thank you Vic, for this effort and support.

A great cause Vic, I am sure just about everyone here has had a friend or relative or colleague diagnosed with cancer, so it does affect us all.
My MIL died of breast cancer, and my wife is now having "womens problems", so every time she feels sick, the whole family worries. Thank god nothing has come of it, but it is really scary.
Keep up the great work you are doing.
Cancer foundation, Red Cross and the Childrens Hospital are the only ones I donate to now-a-days, simply because they make a real difference.

Thanks for all the support. A friend of mine lost his 16 year old daughter a few years ago to cancer. It is just something that no one should have to go through, especially kids.

I'll be shaving my head this Sun. After the event, I will post some pics of my dome.

For those still interested in donating, please use the above link to my St. Baldricks donation page.

    Thanks again for the support.
