Your Boat Name and what does it mean?

During some slow time lets have something to talk about, maybe it has been done before and I did not find it in a search. But anyway I will start one and add where are you from and what do you do?

My boat as soon as the temps rise will be lettered "The Mistress" So I can tell the Wife that I will be spending time with The Mistress! She is already jealous of her so she deserves a name to go with her jealousy ...LoL

My name is Mike and I am from Maryland upper Chesapeake bay area and I am a carpenter.

Re: Your Boat Name and what does it mean?

My boys want to name our boat "Wet Dreams". Probably has something to do with those teenage years. :)

My wife isn't too thrilled with the idea.

Re: Your Boat Name and what does it mean?

LOL mikeyt! I can't tell you how many cigarette boats I've seen named that.

My boat is unnamed, but everyone refers to it as "shabah", so I may decide to name her that. Not only because it's the model name, but because of it's translation "the night ghost". I've also been calling myself "shabah" on the VHF when hailing marinas, because it's annoying to say "the 25 foot white boat with the gold trim and checkered flag calling Seaway Marina for an overnight transient slip" :D

If you guys do decide to name or even rename, be sure and follow the ritual for good luck. I know it sounds funny, but I've helped many of my sailing buddies perform the ceremonies. Neptune's not one to piss off, especially on the Great Lakes, and even worse, the oceans....

Mine was named "Irish Song" by the original owner but i removed that name after downing a slug of the demon rum just to appease the water gods and the sea creature from Pirates of the Caribbean. :)

Our Z275 was named "Playmate" by the original owner. We have thought about renaming her "Playin' Hard" but I do not want to cast any bad luck on our boat by renaming her!

We live in Ocala, Florida and I am a Commercial Builder, Real Estate Broker, Stainless TIG welder, and dog house builder! Another words, anything that will pay the bills!!

Our Z280 was named by the original owner Czech-n-Mate but since I am 1/2 Czech I decided to keep the name. Didn't want to upset the water gods by renaming the vessel...supposed to be bad luck.

My name is Steve , I am from Rockland County, NY near the Tappan Zee Bridge and I'm an Electrical Engineer.

Nice Z280 Steve! She is beautiful. I agree with ya' on the renaming. There is actually a procedure to rename a boat (as ShabahZ250 pointed out) and it won't cause bad luck if you follow it but I don't trust it! I need all the good luck I can get! :rolling_laugh:

It does work! It's been ritual for years! Had a sailor buddy who botched up one thing with the procedure by leaving one small scrap of paper with the old vessel name onboard, (which we didn't find until mid-season) and ended up having one of the worst seasons ever, cursed with horrible storms and countless boat problems, he ended up selling, and bought a brand new unnamed 33 footer, and will be performing the renaming ritual when she dunks her keel in the spring. As superstitious as it sounds, everyone in the sailing world follow these maritime traditions religiously! I figure they've gotta know something since they rely on both the wind and the water! About 75% of the powerboaters at my marina have done it too.... Maybe it's a Great Lakes thing?

BTW, My name's Chris from Cincinnati Ohio and I'm a educational media developer for one of southwest ohio's largest hospitals. I also run a media production business and a vinyl decal business in my spare time too. like csterner says, anything that'll help pay the bills! :)

I had the registration numbers made at the same time so it all matches one of the interior colors.

Re: Your Boat Name and what does it mean?

It has been nice to meet all of you and hear some boat names. When I was shopping for a boat and I did not like the name I moved on!!! Me and my step father re-named a boat once and not by choice (the previous owner wanted the name off as it was the name of his charter business) and that was one rough year. The next year was fine after we chased all the gremlins away and the fishing got better as well!!!!

Re: Your Boat Name and what does it mean?

Our boat was named "Georgie-Girl", but had been removed before we bought it. I dont know that the previous owner followed any procedure and that could be why I bought it from the bank at auction.

Once all the bugs are worked out, she is refreshed a bit more and the trailer gets a make over (or replacement)....well give her a name fitting of our time and experiences weve had with her.

Here are some were toying with:

After 5
Summa Home
Yacht-Sea
Just About Perfect

Im a retired banker from the Portland Oregon area (Tualatin).

I did not have a clue what to call my boat... so I called it "mine" in Italian ( Il Mio), as that sounds sexier (and less macho) than the dutch version

Re: Your Boat Name and what does it mean?

By the way, great thread.

I purchased my boat with the name Trelos firmly painted on, albeit, quality job. It took me a bit to find out what it meant and I'm [I]pretty[I] sure it means "crazy" in Greek. I confirmed this once I got a look at the title and original owner, his last name ended with 'opolis" or something to that affect.
Of course the closest thing to anything Greek in my family is the feta cheese in my fridge. However it is a conversation piece, so it will remain for now. We have played with something along the lines of "for the kiddos" as our last name is Kitto. We shall see.

Re: Your Boat Name and what does it mean?

Hey
Just have her in a shop getting buffed and having antifouling paint done and a complete detailing and buffing inside. ( she is going to be living at a marina in Nova Scotia) I only have the pictures from the broker because I towed her home Dec 17 and shrink wrapped the next day.. I will be posting up some pictures of the work over the next few days. Going to be a busy winter working on her. I am replacing the bimini top (color change), new graphics,VHF radio, sound system upgrade (need my iPod) ,a EPIRB, and a salt neutralizer system installed.

That's what the co-captain approved for this year..haha

The worst thing is that I have only had about a hour sitting in her so far.. winter sucks

Well over the winter months things change just like the name for the boat. I wanted to name the boat "Pounding Busch" but was shot down quickly. Then "The Mistress" was settled for until some of her co-workers herd about Pounding Busch and it was a hit so she changed her mind and the letters are on!

I named my first boat BLOWN BUDGET. Had a 454 with a B&M blower on it. Stock speed 61. After Blower and heads, cam and 850 Holley it ran 84 on GPS. Got a 99 Jubilee 244 about a month ago and named it this weekend. 5 0'Clock Somewhere. Figured with all the room on board it was party time. Pulls great with 454MPI and Bravo 3 drive with 28 pitch props. It needs some work but its mostly cosmetic. Would love to put a 502 in it!!!

Ours is firefly as is mentioned in previous posts and my sig.

Easy really, my serenity is on the water and the firefly class space freighter in the TV series Serenity was named...well Serenity. Since she's red and "lights up the night" thanks to my LED lighting upgrades, firefly seemed a no-brainer. We also went to a local company to have custom vinyl cut in gold metallic for the name and our call numbers.

Is it bad to have two boats with the same name on one lake? We wanted the happy ours but found this last weekend that it was taken. Now we need to find a new one.

Don't mean to hijack the thread but it doesn't seem worth a separate thread.

I purchased my 250 in Feb. she came named Wet Spot. I'm not too fond of it. I'm aware of superstition. I get a lot of comments over it like " wet spot huh?" What to do what to do....
