Default back from holidays

Had a great time away from work, tried to get out boating as much as I could. Worked on the cottage painting it and cleaning it up etc. Was also very warm, it was above the 30 celcius mark for most of the week. Beautiful boating weather for the whole week. Not a drop of rain!!.

Anyways .. i posted a short lil bit about my trip on my boat in the trip section on this webpage and now I have to get caught up in all the chat that I have missed over the past week.

Great to hear you had a good break from work. Most people today are too focused on work and don't spend enough time enjoying what they have. I viewed your pictures, it looks like you had a blast. I am getting away for the next 4 days and hope to have as much fun.

I love being out driving around our lake on my boat, its sooo relaxing. This summer it became my new summer "hobby".. lol. I would like to move north and find a job closer to my cottage so that the drive time would be reduced.

In a way, i feel like im neglecting everything else down here. My friends I havent really hung out this summer because I have always been up north on weekends with my girlfriend on my boat. I have tried to invite them up because they said they wanted to come up, but so far they have been busy as well. I just want to be able to spend as much time on the boat as I can before it goes back into storage late next month.

    Ick .. storage ...

That's the way to be. Enjoy it as much as you can, while you can. You're one of the fortunate ones on here that has a cabin on a lake! I think we all dream of that, I know I sure do.

The way I see it, if your friends can't join you, it just gives you more of a reason to hang out during the off-season. I got together with some friends last week for a Texas Hold-Em Poker game, (which i had never played before) and we had a blast. However they wanted to do it more regularly, and I said, "As soon as boating season's over, I'll have TONS of time, but not until then!"

The cottage (cabin) that we are in, my late grandparents built it back in the 1940's-1950s and redid it about 20 odd years ago to what it still sits at today. We only really use the cottage from mid-April to October (Thanksgiving weekend). Occasionally we go up in winter to check on the cottage. This past February we had around 5 feet of snow piled up on the roof and we had to contract someone to clean it off for us.

Yep once late September rolls around, my free time for hanging out just increased. LOL. Yeah, I'm seeing things the way you are, everything is on hold till boating season is done.

Good thing we didnt have any weddings to attend this summer

Fortunate one here as well. My cabin is right on the water. Million dollar view. The geography makes a dock off my property out of the question, but the marina is on the opposite side of the bay (5 minutes walking).

My son and I decided to go for an evening cruise tonight. Left at 8, back at 9. Caught the sunset on the water. Sweet.

I had the house and barnful of friends here last weekend. It was fun, we spent a lot of time on the boat, but it's also nice now they are gone. Much more relaxed...

My son wanted to play hold'em tonight when we got back, but all the fresh air got to him, and he conked out.

That is one thing I have been meaning to do with my girlfriend, anchor out in Sparrow somewhere and watch the sunset then head back for shore.

For the first 2 months of this boating season I never had bow lights (good thing I was never stopped). When I was on holidays last week I installed 3 new switches that had broken housings and played around with the wiring to the bow light. Eventually we found out that it was a loose bullet connector that connects into the socket. Cleaned it up, refit and tested .. good to go.

I'm hoping to get out for a starlight cruise in the next few evenings. The peak intensity of the Perseids (meteor showers) begins this weekend. There is nothing like being out on the darkess of the water to stargaze, and it should be easy to spot plenty of "shooting stars".

I can remember a meteor shower that happened maybe a good 10 years ago. We were all up north that weekend and ALL the cottagers on our bay were out looking up to the sky that night. We gave up counting around 200+ by about 11pm. It was so clear and there were no major lights from cities to get in the way. I think Toronto area may have only seen 40-50 the whole evening. It was nice to just lay back on the dock and watch one after another, after another.

Never on a boat, we arent much for night time navigating to begin with Sunsets might still be in feasible however.. lol.

Geez....i go on vacation for 10days and come back to find we have 30 more members than when i left and lots of new postings! I ran into a couple of people on vacation with older Mariah's up north & told them about this site. Both said they would check us out when they got back home.
We watched some of the meteor shower over the weekend up at the cottage and it was excellent. There is very little light pollution where we are & the skies are filled with stars at night so the viewing was easy. The midnight cruise thing can be a little scary up here though. Way too many rockshelfs on Georgian Bay, particulary with the water levels being down so you have to know exactly where you're goin' ....
Getting away from work is mandatory at our place. Leave the 'crackberry' and the laptop at home and dont give anyone from work the phone# at the cottage!
Here's a couple of quick pics...
