I used to be the wheel man on my friends Douglas Skater, which was equipped with twin merc race 250's. At full throttle (which is really the only way to drive it ) it would throw a 30' rooster tail.

I'm sure whatever the soup can does would have me going: meh....

OK, did some research. apparently this is a real big deal over at iboats forum. Oddly enough, i found it in the "Stupid Human Tricks while Boating" section...

Here's a video of a test with a can which shows it really doesn't do much.
    http://s112.photobucket.com/albums/n...t=P8290136.flv

And here's a diagram someone on iboats came up with. This seems to make much more sense, however i don't know...

    12-24" of 3" Pvc, 3" to 1" pvc reducer 2" of 1" pvc, pvc 45 degree coupling, 6" of 1" pvc

If you read the thread over at iboats, you'll find many people compare this to a "snipe hunt". Here's the full thread if you really want to read all about it... http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=208523

OK i just watched the video and have to say. Safety was not a top priority for the guy holding the test item. I could only think about the "Can" getting caught up in the prop and that idiot holding the lines. Then he started to wrap the lines around his hands. Probably not the best idea.

For inspiration, if you are really interested in doing this, look at the Yamaha wave runner set up. I think a flexible hose attached to the lower part of the drive on the transom of the boat, call it the intake then routed upwards towards the swim step should provide the desired effect.

Good luck to anyone who is this bored. Surely the boat could use another coat of wax instead right? LOL

If it works for anyone show pics please.

I just took a look at the video and what a waste of time and gas. I have to agree that the boat should get another coat of wax. I have seen boats with a rooster tail on them and think that is a pretty cool affect but what happens when that can gets slapped buy the water the right way and comes flying back in the boat. Ouch!!! Talk about a head ache. I think I will do without the cool effect.
