I found this forum and I realize it is dated so I thought I would try to fire it back up. I am considering a gps/fish finder/depth finder. I will use it mostly for amusement. Maybe to prevent getting lost on some larger lakes. Accurate speed. Maybe fishing occasionally.
I am trying to first of all decide which brand to go with. I think I have found some comparable units from garmin, hummingbird, and lowrance. I just wonder what everyone else thinks about these units. I think I am leaning towards the lowrance elite 5 dsi. I am finding them priced around $600.00. So that is the price range I am in or less if I can get something nice for less money.
Any advice or thoughts will be appreciated. Thanks

I have the Garmin GPSMAP 541S and have not had any problems with it yet.

I have the Garmin GPSMAP 526S and mostly appreciate the screen under day light condition. I don't appreciate the price of the actual sea maps though ...

Still have to install the sounder the next couple of weeks (postponing to drill yet another hole through the hull...)

    Cheers,

    Johan
