Default Ipad with Navionics map

I learned today that Navionics(the electroinic chart company) has a marine charting application for i-pad and i-phone. It basically turns your device into a GPS chartplotter. I was wondering if anybody has used this application before. In theory it sounds good because it would give u a multi use device for primary or backup navigation. I am just looking for input or thoughts from others.

Be safe and happy boating!
Dan

I downloaded the iphone app and it's cool. the screen is a lil small, but I imagine the Ipad would be even better.

I use My Tracks on my Android device all the time. It uses GPS and Google Maps to chart your course. It's not maritime specific but it's free, I boat quite a few different lakes and hasn't ever let me down.

the navionics program shows water markers, ramps and depths. you just zoom into the area you want a map and download it.

I use the navionics app on my iphone, and it works great. I imagine it would only be better on a bigger screen. The only problem is it will drain your phone battery if you leave it on all the time.
