Default Engine/trim control replacement

Last Saturday while docking my 1997 Shabah 186 remote control got stuck in neutral. I disassembled it and re-installed it, now it's stuck in reverse! Where is the cheapest place to buy a new control (Quicksilver Classic 3000)? What precautions should I take when re-installing it?

Thanks,
Mark

Have you considered having it looked at by a service center? They might be able to fix your existing one!

Or if you're planning to do it yourself, they are relatively easy to get replacements for, there are plenty of mercruiser part suppliers online. Just an FYI, Quicksilver is made by Mercruiser.

    Wink Thanks for the reply.

I just retired and I've owned 2 sucessfull bodyshops, so skill wise I think I'll be ok. I've seen new engine controls for around $250. So I'm not sure any shop can fix it any cheaper and the control on my boat is 11 years old (we bought our boat new). I keep the boat in the water during the summer so I'm trying to do the repair on my dock. What I'm really trying to avoid is buying the repair manuals!

I'm also trying to find out it there is a postion the control has to be in for installation and a specfic gear.

    thanks,
    Mark
