I have never owner a boat before and about all I know is they cost a lot to maintain but it looks like to much fun to pass up.

PLEASE HELP ME...

Looking for something that can be used for

- rivers and lakes
- can tow a tube and wake board
- reliability (which from what I understand is not possible. I am mechanically inclined and can work on almost anything)
- Open bow to sit as many people as possible
- Some kind of shade cover (this is a must at the request of the women)
- Price range of $8,000 - $12,000 (located in Socal)
- I dont know what size motor I want, basically I want enough power but keep it as small as possible to get the best gas milage possible.

I found this one but I know nothing about it???

The whole thing with owning a boat is to do the maintenence on the boat so you don't have reliability issues. If the owner of that Mariah is having reliability issues....run! That means it wasn't and isn't taken very good care of.
From what you are describing , that is a good choice for you. She'll hold 10-12 people , and pull a tube or two ...or a skier or two with no problems.
When your looking , ask about a bimini top for the boat. That is just like a umbrella and will give lots of shade.
Ask for maintenence records
Make sure all electricals work(especially the trim gauge)
Check hours if there is a hour meter.
Check hull for scrapes and damage (good sign of the way a boat is treated)
Check all fluids(engine , drive , trim pump , power steering)
Take a friend that knows boats and get it on the water(most important in my opinion).
If you know no one that knows boats you might want to spend a couple hundred and get a "Boat Surveyor" to go thru it.

Nope. There is no 'bad history' on any specific Mariah boat, only bad history on boats that weren't maintained during their lifetime. The Jubilee is a popular model here, its great for larger groups, has lots of usable room & with the right power can either be economical or perform very well depending on what you are looking for.

I'll just add one thing to Larry's excellent tutorial. Make sure all of the trim pieces are there too. Finding replacement trim sections, a door for the loo and/or windshield glass can be difficult but not impossible.

I went and looked at it and the interior is very badly sun damaged. Does anyone have any estimates on what it would cost to have all the upholstery recovered? The current owner said he got a quote of 2K does that sound accurate

Yeah , I'd say that is close twitch. Between 2-3 grand is kinda average for a boat that size it seems.

I dunno. I suspect $2k is not using the better quality vinyl that Mariah used and given the extra seating etc in a Jubilee it sounds like a plain & cheap repair.
