Belt came off and overheated motor
I was on the lake today and noticed the boat was getting hard to steer. I saw it was overheated and shut it down immediately. Two of the belts had came off and made it overheat. It tried to turn over once but now won't start. Will that cause the motor to lock up?

Are you saying the starter can not turn over the motor or it turns but won't start ?

Re: Belt came off and overheated motor
You may have hydraulic lock caused by the over heat. The heads can warp slightly allowing cooling water into the cylinders. Try taking the spark plugs out of the motor. If you see any water come out of the plug holes then that is your problem. You need to get the intake and heads off ASAP, remove water, clean up the cylinders with WD-40 and replace the head gaskets with a good marine gasket.

I'm going to try that when I get off work. Thanks. I'll let you know the outcome.

Re: Belt came off and overheated motor
I pulled the plugs the only one had water in it. I cleaned everything up and put new belts on and it started right up and it didn't run hot. It ran for a while and the temperature stayed at 150. Looks like I got lucky. Thank you.
