Re: The Cove

Lake Billy Chinook sits in the middle of nowhere in Central Oregon. Deep at the bottom of those 600' tall canyon walls is the lake with depths that Ive recorded over 300'.

The lake is fed by 3 rivers. Metolius, Deschutes and Crooked Rivers. All of which are fed directly from snow run off from three of the highest peaks nearby. So the water is very clean and fairly cold.

I havent recorded the actual length (via gps), but it takes 30+ minutes to go from one end to the other (longest stretch) at 40 mph. The real draw here is the weather. Culver Oregon (nearest town 3 miles away) typically has some of the warmest weather in the whole state all summer. Then you add 10 degrees on the water.

The week that we were there Culver averaged 80-85.

Cool video! What kind of boat are you tied up to about the 2:40 mark? It looks to be a smaller mid-cabin??

Really? that boat looks much smaller than a 28', especially compared to yours. I bet that was one heck of a trip. Looked like a ton of fun.

Re: The Cove

we have a great group of peps that come every year, usually 8-10 boats, 45-50 peps...so there's always a crowd and someone looking to show off. this year it was the kids jumping from the bridge. last year we couldnt get em up there.

water temps were a lil low. we usually see 67-70, but with 10' feet of snow in late March, its still running off today.

That is chilly water. It would be cool to boat in clearer water though. My usual lake is 90-100 water temp when it gets real hot. I take it theres no law against jumping off the bridge?

Awesome video, looks like a blast!

Re: The Cove

not only is there NO law against it, on the other side of the bridge (the clib where my buddy is doing the dive), if you looked close you will see a gap in the hand rail. They actually have a place where they "want" you to jump from. The water is 30' feet deep just 15' from shore.
