Re: Ford Ranger

Heard rumors around but first sighting unmasked.
Looks like a mini F150. Is it 4WD? How does it do with that little diesel?

Re: Ford Ranger

Yes it is 4x4, but I would imagine with a 6 speed manual box you’re going to get a bit fed up with changing gears!
In Europe we get different engine configurations than you do over the pond.
For instance my Jeep has a 2.7L Mercedes-Benz diesel engine. (you can get a 4.0L straight 6 or a 4.7 V8 petrol over here too)
Not sure the 2.2L Ford will have the grunt, it's basically the same engine that’s in my Ford Transit van

We won't get this truck because the price would be the same or a little higher than an F150. It would be nice especially with the diesel. Probably gets decent mileage.

Re: Ford Ranger

The sales blahb states 35mpg on a combined cycle. i'l believe that when i see it....

What's the tow rating?

Re: Ford Ranger

Nice looking truck with decent towing capacity for boats up to maybe 23'-24' from what i can see. There are so many different vehicles in Europe that we'll never see and those diesels are far more popular over there with the higher cost of fuel.

I know I always feel like I'm getting bent over paying 3.50 a gallon till I think what it is elsewhere, then I complain some more. :)

Re: Ford Ranger

The irony is over here diesel is more expensive than petrol.

Re: Ford Ranger

Depending on what day of the week it is or whether the moon is too close to the earth, diesel is either higher or lower that gasoline here too. But when you are paying another 30-50% over what we pay here, then those diesels become far more cost effective.

Hence the exaggeration of the fuel mileage claim maybe?:p:wink_thumbup:

That’s the Holy Grail over here
When I had my jeep worked on I was promised “up to”
40% increase in hp,
40% increase in torque and
20% increase in MPG’s.
Go figure that one out
Maybe I’m not driving it right

I asked someone in the fuel business about this once. It still baffles me but makes more sense now. I asked why a less refined product like diesel could possibly be more expensive. I was told the reason is because per volume, diesel contains more energy than gasoline, and the price was being based upon how much energy could be extracted from each product. Makes a little more sense in that light, but still a rip off I think.

Re: Ford Ranger

Yeah but the bottom line is it cost 7 times more to refine Gas/petrol than diesel, over here they use the argument that diesel is more harmful to the environment! (Not as clean burning)
We also have a vehicle licence tax that’s on a sliding scale depending on how environmentally friendly the car is,
but my argument to that is your already paying more at the pump so were just being taxed twice!
Truth is it's all about the $/£
