Bearing Size?

Hey guys I have a chariot trailer that holds my 1998 Shabah 180. It is single axle and I can not remember what size the bearings are. The trailer is 8hrs away so I cant take off the hubs and measure it myself. Any ideas?

On second thought do you guys think I should just repack the bearing or replace them all together? I dont think there is anything wrong with them but I thought it would be good to replace them because of their age.

I would wait 'till you get to where the trailer is and can pull the wheels and inspect the bearings. You should be able to get them at any local auto supply. I would repack if they look good. I would also install "Bearing Buddy" grease caps per the instructions that come with them. They will keep water from getting into the hub since they keep a slight positive pressure on the hub. The worst thing for bearings is to sit in one spot with water in the hub...it rusts the bearings and makes them get hot and seize while towing down the road. You will need to measure the lip diameter of the hub that the cap fits into to get the right size.

hey Dakotaman, i would have to agree with IowaWing, wait till you get there and inspect the bearings,if they do need replacing, try and clean them, removing the old grease, look real close at it, and you should see a part number stamped the race that slides over the axle. repack your bearings with a marine grade grease that is for boat trailers, it won`t wash out as quickly as auto axle grease. good luck, Jackie

Re: Bearing Size?

Sounds good. I wanted to have new bearings with me because I drive up next friday, work on the trailer all day saturday, and drive back home on sunday. I hope the bearings are fine because I wont have enough time to find an auto or marine store while im up there. Thanks for the info and if anyone knows the exact bearing size please chime in. Thanks again!

Boat and trailer weight 3,300lbs... I think.
