Default Single vs. Tandem Axle Trailers

I was browsing through the Gallery and happened to notice that some of the Shabah 202 models shown have a tandem axle trailer. Mine only is single axle. I wondered if this is an option when new or what? My trailer is the Heritage brand painted and striped to match my boat's graphics, single axle, 1995 model Shabah Z202.

Mine sits on a single axle (Eagle) trailer. I have the heavy duty axle, with the six lug pattern on wheels. No problems at all.

I find the single axle trailer much more manoeverable than a dually. The only downside is the potential for big trouble should you have a blowout/flat while towing.

I have a Chariot trailer, dual chrome wheels. It says on the side "custom built for Mariah boats" I have a Z212 though and you have the 202. I wonder if the cut off is that? Anything over 20 feet and dual axle???

My 94 Talari 210 [21 feet] has a Heritage tandem trailer, with serge brakes. Perhaps 20 feet is the cutoff.

My '92 Shabah 212 came with a single axle trailer, so the cutoff isn't at 20 ft. Maybe the original owner asked for a single axle. I'll have to ask him.

I think it was probably an option, I have seen many 20-21'boats with the single axle. Since most Mariahs were custom ordered it was probably a choice of the owner or dealer that ordered it.

I'm thinking it was based more off the weight of the boat than the buyers choice. Tracy's '92 is rated at 2700 lbs. A few years later, the 212 weighed 3000 lbs. and came with dual axle trailers.

If I remember correctly (which is rare), trailer axles are usually rated for 3000 lbs. if 5 lug, and 5000 lbs. if 6 lug.

I just bought a 2000 model Z202. It has a tandem axle trailer with it. I agree with bpfirrman. Probably an option on custom orders.
