To balance or not to balance

I have a single axle trail rite trailer with a 2001 Shabah 182. I need new tires and wanted some opinions on wether to balance the new tires or not. The existing ones were balanced. Iam new to boating and have not towed much before the last 3 months.
Thanks

That's a good question. I suppose I never thought about it as Discount Tire just balanced mine without asking. Apparently it's not necessary on trailer tires per eTrailer.com. (They have been a go to place for my trailer questions).

Did you check the age of the tires? It is a 4 digit code stamped on the side wall. 1st two digits are the week it was made and the 2nd two are the year. If they are over 5 years old the should be replaced. I have a buddy that gets new ones every 3 years.

I always balance. An out of balance tire can wear bearings out faster.

The tires are 4 years old but 1 blew out last week. I had a new spare but the other tire on the trailer is the same as the one that blew so I'm going to get 2 new ones for the trailer,my spare is a bias and the new ones I am going to get will be radials so I will balance them. :wink_thumbup:

I got 2 new tires and when I installed them I noticed that when the tire blew it smashed the metal brake line. I am not sure if the surge brake was working before but pretty sure it won't work properly now. With a boat this size do you think brakes on the trailer are really necessary, helpful yes but necessary?

Hello we have a 1999 182 Shabah (got it a month ago and have loved it from the test ride/drive) it came with the original Prestige trailer. No surge brakes on it at all and have no problems towing it at all with our Tacoma. As long as you tow smart and careful you should have no problems. Cheers and hope this helps
