2000 250 Shabah

I'm looking into buying this boat, but I don't know if my half ton can drag it. Does anyone know the tongue and towing weight of this little beauty?

My Z252 weighs 4,800 lbs, empty. I don't know the tongue weight, or the weight of the trailer.

Thanks. I got the seller on the phone and he shipped it with the trailer at just under 5500 lbs. that's well within my truck's tow weight.

I can't wait to pay the man and get this little beast over the side!

I have a half ton. I also have a Shabah 250 with a 7.4 mpi. I have weighed the truck and trailer and came up with 6700 for the boat and trailer at a local landscape business. My truck is a 1999 F150 5.4 with a 3.73 rear end. It has a tow rating of 7800 max and a GVWR of 6300. ( If I recall correctly. Been a while since I looked at the numbers on the truck.)

I can give you my thoughts on towing said boat with my half ton. I live in Colorado and purchased the boat in Arizona. It was an 11 hour drive to Az and it was around 16 hours home. It took 5 extra hours to drag the boat behind my old half ton. I would not do it again knowing what I know now. (Trailer did NOT have working brakes at the time!!) My poor little truck hated it. A little over 20mph up Raton pass and right around 55-60 as a comfy speed on open road. This trip was in February when it was freezing outside- no problems getting hot. I still use this truck to pull the boat all the time! The lake we visit is under ten min from our house and only has a 45 mph speed limit for a brief portion. It does that no problem.

We had a 2010 GMC 1500 Z71 with the 5.3 vortec 3.55 rear end for two summers. It towed this boat pretty good. We would average 14 MPG at 65mph which was better than my buddy towing his 21' boat behind his 2008 duramax. He was getting 13 mpg with a smaller boat and same speed. We made the 12 hour trip to Lake Powell with that truck and it didnt put up much of a fuss until with hit some of the high mountain passes. It really did not do bad. Just a naturally aspirated engine at altitude.

I have since put new axles, electric brakes and load D tires on the trailer. Those items made a big difference in ease of towing and stopping. Something to consider if you are buying a 15 year old boat- my trailer needed much more work than my boat did.

What year is the boat/trailer?

I've got a 2014 chevy 1500 4 x 4 with tow package so I believe I'm good up to 6800 lbs. I'm so fired up about this boat! The trailer is original to the boat, 2000, but stored indoor and both have been very well maintained

I really enjoy this 250! It's not a speed boat but it is a fun boat for sure!

What motor do you have in yours? I hope I didn't fudge up the math when I weighed my boat/trailer.

Re: 2000 250 Shabah

I cant see a 1200lb difference even if there was a full tank in the boat and it was loaded down (which it was not). Thanks for the info. Welcome to MOC!
