Performance question

Just bought a low hour/used 2006 Mariah SX21 in a situation where there was no opportunity to get it in the water. The boat has a 5.0L carbureted merc with a 21 pitch prop. Fuel injected my have been a better buy! ?

Question: With this set-up, will the boat have much of a hole shot to pluck a skier or wake boarder. My concern: a couple of friends have boats that cant get it up, just too big with no low end pull. Appreciate your thoughts.

Re: Performance question

I have the same boat with the 5.0L V8. It has PLENTY of power to get skiers/wakeboarders up. I also put a monster tower on mine a few seasons ago and it works great.

The engine isn't always a limiting factor. Switching to a 4 blade prop will give you a lot more holeshot. Visit the "Prop Talk" section of the forum, our prop gurus can get you set up with exactly what you need.

I have an SC21 with the 4.3 and a 17p 4 blade. It pulls skis, wake boards an tubes no problem. I don't recall doing that with more than 5-6 people in the boat bit the 5.0 should do fine. Especially being an open bow to adjust the weight to.

I have a 5.7 merc with a 4 blade 19p prop.that's what I would recommend.

IBoats usually runs some good deals on props , but if at all possible try to find a dealer near to you that will "loan" props for testing. Then you can dial it in the way you want.
