Electrical nightmare?
Ok. I haven't dug into the electrical yet, and before I do, I want to make sure what I'm experiencing isn't normal.
When I turn on the battery switch, my Nav/anchor switch light illuminates. This switch seems to be a three way switch. It doesn't matter the position it is always on. The other switches do not operate their respective equipment unless the Nav/anchor switch is pressed forward. After it is pressed, the horn, stereo, bilge blower, etc work fine. As soon as I move the Nav/anchor switch into any other position all other accessories shut off. The Nav lights do not illuminate either. Any ideas on this problem. I'll start shooting wires tomorrow. |

Electrical nightmare?
Check to see the wires to the battery are correctly hooked up. Mine aren't labeled, I inadvertently hooked one of the wires to positive instead of neg and had a similar situation. Moved one wire and all is fine. Hopefully it's as easy as that for you.

Re: Electrical nightmare?
Sounds like a grounding issue to me.
Check and clean every dang ground you can find. Especially at the fuse/breaker box , and the battery , and the main plug to the dash from the engine. It could be in the switch itself too. Just a couple of things that come to mind. |
Re: Electrical nightmare?
Went searching for wiring problems...I found that I have a yellow wire hooked up to my batteries positive post. The wire is coming from the trim unit and has a 30 amp in line. Yellow is ground correct? It's late so I didn't really have time to mess with it. Usually red is power, and the unit has a bigger power line coming off the battery also. The trim works, but it has been a little sketchy, but I think its because I need to clean the contacts/replace the trim switch or clean the contacts on the unit. Thoughts?
