Carpet attachment

Just off hand does anyone know if the original carpet is glued down or just stretched and secured in certain places? AND is there textured fiberglass underneath much like in the front section of the bow?

I have a 2004 SX19

Re: Carpet attachment

I'd venture a guess that it's glued down. That'd be the most secure way to do it. Now how much glue Sea Fox Mariah used, that I'm not sure of.

Also I would assume there'd be non-skid underneath in the walking areas, but there's really only one way to find out, and that's by pulling it up.

Re: Carpet attachment

I was afraid of that answer... it doesn't look like its a common "delete" modification. The boat was so nice I bought it with carpet.. which I find ridiculous... retains moisture. I think this off season I will inspect an area under the seat mounts by taking the seat off the deck and pulling up the carpet a bit... plan B is to go Hydro Turf.

I really wouldn't be worrying about retaining moisture. True marine carpet won't hold moisture for long. I'm not sure what Sea Fox Mariah is using but the Corinthian carpet that Mariah Boats Inc. used would stay damp for a little while, but would dry usually within 30 minutes.

Take my word here... As someone who's owned two boats with bare non-skid floors, carpet is what you want, unless you're planning to gut fish onboard. Non-skid gets hot, uncomfortable, it's incredibly hard to keep clean, and eventually the tips of the non-skid begin to break. I put carpet in my Z250, and I'll have carpet in the Z280 by next year.

But, hydro-turf is a decent alternative if you wanted to go that route.

Thanks for the feedback.

I think a good cleaning with a bisel steamer might bring mine back to life. The carpet is not torn except on the starboard gunwale. I have a remenannt/snap down center section of carpet I can patch in. My boat doesn't have snaps in the center to cover the ski hatch so I have no idea why I have it in the boat.

I noticed that the bare anti-skid in my friend's 25' maxim does show the dirt very quickly he is constantly fresh water hosing it off when we are on the lake.

Oh boy.... :shakehead: As i think you can see, i quoted Phillycincykid's post. As his boat is a 1990 model, it was from the very first year of Mariah production. You have a SeaFox boat with a Mariah name on it.

i love the arithmetic on this site :wink_thumbup:....yes they were certainly cutting there teeth with boat building when mine was created. while redoing the boat alot of things were omitted, such as the wonderful in floor cooler that was a collection point for bilge water, odors, mold and everything else

no problem. i suspect though that no (or very few) original parts were used in the building of Sea Fox boats in 2003 other than the hull itself and/or possibly any unfinished boats that SeaFox may have picked up during the auction. I understood that there wasn't many spare parts or excess inventory of parts at the old Mariah plant when the hammer came down.

I think that many of us would love to know exactly what was available at the bankruptcy auction and who those items sold to but, afaik, no records exist of what was sold to whom.

I think I have you beat... Mine is the 1st year of (Sea Fox/Mariah) production - an SX9. I think the SX9 preceeded the SX19. I did a search in the forums and can't find anything on SX9. Perhaps this is the first of such posts.

I'm not aware of an SX-9 model. It sounds like someone screwed up either at Sea-Fox's end or when registering the boat.

Looks like there was a SX8 , SX9 , then the SX20 in 2003 according to the Mariah brochure.
No SX19 listed til 2004.

Great structural carpet..... :)

Good thing I sold my "jerk skis" today for a stack big old stack of Ben Franklins.... I still think I am going to go MariDeck wife is leaning towards hydroturf... but that stuffs 60 bucks for a 42X50 sheet... I can get 6' wide by 15' feet for $200 bucks of the MariDeck.

Looks like I will be trading up..... Rather than pulling my carpet.. Found a freshwater low hour 2004 sx19 with a 5.0 and fiberglass textured floors. Going to pick it up hopefully next week . Then sell my 2004 sx19 4.3 with normal hours and put it after swapping my aluminum trailer and theirs.

Re: Carpet attachment

I have been happy as can be with my SX19... great width and length for a good family boat. However, if I get a chance to get a nicer interior and optioned Mariah, with less hours and upgrade to a 5.0 from a 4.3.... I am all about out it.

I have read such horror stories of stringer and deck rot... just knowing that the Mariah's don't have that problem is such a great plus to me.

I prefer CL... this one is nicer than my current SX19 and is a steal!
