How to select the right prop?

Hello

I just bought a 2007 SX18 from a local marina and was wondering if i have the right prop on the boat? They replace the prop and it seems like its hard to pull the skiers up out of the water with the prop that is on the boat now and didn't know if getting a different pitch would help? The SX18 is powered by a Mercruiser 3.0L Alpha One.

Can anyone hlep me?

Doug

It's a trial and error thing. What size and pitch did they put on it?

Looks like it has a 19 pitch on it.

hi doug
the standard pitch is 21 on my 2008 model sx18 3.0 l
i had a spare 19 pitch in my garage and put it on to try it out .it was no good , the engine revs were high . i put the standard 21 back on . im 6ft 5" and the 21 pitch pulls me out ok.

Doug: This question gets asked a lot. Have a look under the Prop Talk section. I just did a primer on how to select a prop.

btw...i dont mean to poo-poo Iain's advice but i believe that in your case you will make matters worse, not better! Most here with the 3.0 run either a 17" or 19" pitch prop.

Going up in pitch (19-21) is not going to improve your hole shot on that boat ...

and mike...lol:
