Default 2011 R18 Fuel Filling Question

First time boat owner, so this is all new to me. When fueling the boat, I sometimes get a significant amount of fuel spurting back out the fill line and nearby vent, even though once the fuel settles, I can get several gallons more in the tank. Is this common for other owners? Since the nearby vent has a hex wrench hole, I'm thinking it might be adjustable to allow venting while filling, but haven't played around with it yet.

And experience or suggestions?

NO adjustment! That is just how it is.

Do not fill completely and you will minimize the negative results of fuel all over the boat and the water. And you will learn the right speed and angle of the fuel nozzle to limit issues, but LISTEN carefully for the full tank sound and stop filling.

Yeah, I have that same problem on my R20.9. I really want to avoid that! I've tried listening - carefully - but it's always too late! As soon as it sounds full, I instantly get the overflow ... first the vent, then spurts out the fill line. Hard to "not fill completely" b/c I have no idea how much it needs. Perhaps just need more experience, but its very annoying.
    I'm convinced its a design problem ? ... couldn't be operator error ;-)

btw - what's the best thing to do about that gas dripping down over the gelcoat? (I usually fill while on the trailer). probably nothing but let it dry?

the only thing that will solve the problem is to put a vent at the front of the gas tank.

There is an aftermarket fuel vent thing you can buy that actually makes a whistling noise when the tank is filling, and stops whistling once it's full to avoid any overfilling. You might want to look into one.
