horsepower at the propellor

Hello there,
I have bought a SX22 limited edition from the year 2007.
It has a mercruiser 4,3L on board.
My question is: how much horsepower do I have on the propeller?
and what exactly means "turn key start".

Hi Roberto,

Not sure how much HP loss there is through the outdrive, but I would figure it's probably 10% at the most. That said, I believe your 4.3L puts out 190hp for the standard model and 220hp for the MPI at the motor.

If your looking for advice on the best prop to use, shoot a post over to our resident prop guru, MikeyT and he'll gladly get you going in the right direction. :wink_thumbup:

Not knowing in what context the phrase "turn key start" was used, it could simply mean you use a key to start the motor verses a keypad ignition system (there's no way you could "pull start" this motor) or it could mean she's ready to go, just fill 'er up. turn the key and have fun...

"Turn Key Start" is MerCruiser's proprietary name to their carbureted engines that supposedly don't require you to pump the throttle to engage the choke. I have a friend with one and it doesn't seem to do much. His is hard to start and actually starts easier when manually choked. I'm thinking "Marketing 101" at it's best.
