Default Need windshield for mariah sx18

Hi all,

Had a bit of an accident in my garage this winter and the port side windshield of my 2007 mariah sx18 shattered. I would love to be able to replace it myself if i could only find the part. I have no owners manual and have contacted taylor marine but haven't got any answers yet.

Any help, even just to point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Antoine

Willy's right. You actually have a good chance at getting a windshield/frame via Mariah & whoever their supplier is now. The rest of us with the older Mariahs aren't so lucky.....

Great, thanks for the info. I will definitely contact them. I contacted taylor marine yesterday and they explained how to get the part number off of the windshield frame. So i will do that when i get back to the cottage this weekend. But i will call Mariah with the info you gave me in the meantime.

I have a feeling i will have to order the whole windshield as opposed to the one side i need...we'll see i guess.

    Thanks for the reply.

In case anyone is interested, here's the info i got from taylor marine:

    Dear Sir,

We will need the part number off the broken part. If you pull back the screw cover along the outside bottom edge of the windshield you should see the part number in the track.

Once we have that we can get you replacement information.

Good luck in dealing with Taylor Marine. They can be 'difficult' at best. I gave them every number i could find on the glass, on the frame and even inside the frame track including photos & measurements and they still came back and said they didnt recognize any of the numbers provided. In the end they simply said anything beyond 4-5 yrs old is unlikely to be available.
Mariah/SeaFox should be able to give you the necessary info though for your boat.

I found the windshield in the least likely place i would have thought. At a mariah dealership not far from my place. They have been a total disaster everytime i have contacted them or dealt with them. totoally disorganised, parts prices 4X what i can order myself and seemingly very little knowledge about their own boats.

But it was one avenue i had to follow up and it turns out they had ordered a full windshield for a customer last year and they only used the right side, so they are selling me the left at reduced price.

Now, anyone have any tips about installing this thing? ;-)

be very very carefull...... Actually, i removed my complete windshield 2 yrs ago. It wasn't that difficult. Once you removed the rubber/foam trim strip beneath the glass all of the screw heads are accessible. Just make sure you have some help handy to lift it off. You should also gain access to the screws holding each section of the windshield together. You will need to remove one side and i would suggest lubricating the rubber to help the new glass slide into place....or you could go one step further and just replace the entire section with your new section.

OK, thanks for the tips! Amazing that i can get such precise info from someone who has already done it. Thank you internet and thank you kindly mikeyt!

The top part of the existing frame is bent so i will indeed be replacing the whole thing (which sounds like it may be slightly easier). I am going to install this weekend. Fingers crossed. And thanks again.

    Will post my experience.

Put in the new windshield on sunday. As suggested, i removed the gasket below the windshield and all the screws were visible. Removed them all and the windshield slid out with frame and all.

Had a bit of a tough time removing the windshield door pin to remove the door part (corrosion) but after some WD40 and some jiggling, finally got it out.

Then applied a new gasket (peel off adhesive) to the bottom of indow fram and slid it into place. Had to drill new holes into fiberglass cause holes didn't line up but gasket covered old holes perfectly.

    Couple of tips/things:
-start from the outside, going in to screw in the windshield and line up the door at every step. End result was perefect alignement.
-use new screws for the new frame. I made the mistake of reusing old ones and
stripped the head of one, and the head of another came right off (too corroded).
-If you're doing the left side like i was, attach the door before screwing so you can line everything up properly.
-Leave the support arm from the middle of the windshield loose so it has play while you adjust and screw. Tighten this last to get the right height.

I think that'as about it. Pretty straighforward but a two man job if you want to do it right (a lot easier to line up properly with two people).

    Thanks for all the help.
