Hello,
I am looking at purchasing a 1998 Mariah z276 with 454 b3. I am trying to get a feel for this hull. Mariah seems to have gone from a wood cored hull to no wood during this time. Hoping to find a solid answer on this hull if it has wood? Things to look for to tell me if it is wood cored?

If the boat is a Z276 MCC then i believe it still had stringers with marinized wood encapsulated in fiberglass. The Z276 isn't a listed boat in the 1998 brochure but it's possibly some built late in '97 were branded 1998 models. My understanding is that when they switched over to the Z260 MCC & Z280 MCC for 1999 that they eliminated the wood encapsulated stringers for weight reasons as well as the marketing advantage of "no wood, no rot". Personally I'd be surprised if you had any issues with the wood encapsulated stringers.

Perhaps one of the members (Hudson River Steve ??) here with these boats can comment.

Secondly..... this boat isn't a "Sea-Fox" built Mariah, it was one of the original Mariah boats. Not sure why you posted this query in the Sea-Fox section.

Hudson River Steve (who has a 1998 Z280) posted this in another thread; "I can attest that there is still pressure treated wood in the transom. I saw it myself when I replaced the transom assembly this past spring. 20 yrs of salt water actually ate a hole through the aluminum."

I can also attest, the wood in the transom was absolutely fine. Even after 20 years in salt water with a leaky transom assembly.
