prop question

I purchased a 4 blade 20 pitch prop n it runs great but at WOT I am only getting about 38mph verified on gps. Any suggestions?

Re: prop question

What is WOT with the 4 blade?
4 blades ain't for speed , just low and mid range torque.
Sounds like maybe a little "too much" prop on the lower end side for the 5.7L.

prop question

I guess my question is what should I expect speed wise out of my 4 blade. I pull skiers in a regular basis and was wondering if it is worth it to transition to a 3 blade when going "sight seeing on lake"

That 4 blade prop should have you up well into the 40's...

Wonder why it's not getting me there. I did notice when I returned home that the prop was a little loose.

It's been a few months but I wanna say I was running about 4300-4500 rpms.

You might want to double check your performance numbers/rpms then just to be sure. I believe the WOT range for your motor is 4200-4600 with 4600 being the 'sweet spot'.

There are a number of things to check if your top speed is too low but your rpms are okay. Borrow another similar prop (19" or 21" will do) & see what the boat does. Check your prop for deformed blades, do a compression test on each of the cylinders, do a tuneup if needed, check the timing, check for a build up of grunge on the hull (surprising how much that can affect your performance), has the outdrive been changed at some point? possibly the wrong gear ratio?. I'm sure others can chime in with a few more things to check.

Boat mechanically is great. The prop was lose when I pulled it out. Do you think that coulda been the reason?
