Default '93 MX20 prop issue

I've been looking for someone on here with a similar boat. I recently purchased a 1993 MX20 with 5.0L V8 alpha 1 outdrive. Took it out for the first time this weeekend. Not impressed with the time it takes to get on plane. What size prop are you running? I have a 14x23 and imagine that might be part of the problem. I'd like to pull a wake boarder / tuber, but imagine then thing might never plane out. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What's your WOT? Need to be right around 4400-4800 rpm.
That sounds like a lot of prop for that combination.
    Should be a 19p or maybe a 21p , but that's pushing it.

A 23" prop is way too much for that combo. I agree with Larry thoughts on the 19" or 21" (at most)

But since this is now getting into just a prop discussion, i'm going to move part of this thread to the Prop Talk section.

19" came on the 20 ft boats with the 5.0 liter. 21" gives a little higher top end but will be high on the revs.

Not quite. Increasing the pitch lowers the rpms at WOT....

Personally i would suggest a 20" - 4 blade prop in SS for what you are planning to do.

    Thanks.
Considering trying the smart tabs first as they are less expensive and would probably be beneficial no matter what prop I end up with.

The Smart Tabs will not fix that prop issue. With the 23" you are putting a lot of unnecessary strain on the engine and outdrive at low-mid range speeds and the engine rpms are not getting up into the manufacturer's recommended RPM range at WOT. But.... your boat, your call.

Took your suggestion and just ordered a 20" 4-blade. Will let you know how it works out. Thanks again.
