SX19 Prop and Trim Question
 

I have an 07 SX19 with the 4.3 190hp engine. We had it out last weekend and with only 2 people at WOT it was running 41 mph at 5000 rpm. I also have to trim the motor up to a little over half to get it running the smoothest and fastest. Is this normal?

I trim it all the way down for take off and then as it gets up to speed it feels like the outdrive is dragging and putting extra load on the motor so I trim it up and it starts to "skim" on the water and pick up speed. The motor smooths out as well but if we have to stop suddenly for another boat or if someone we are following slows down, it won't take off well unless I lower the trim back down.

I love to way it rides, but I'm not not sure I should have to do so much trimming to it. I have a 14x19 alum prop that I need to replace and am thinking of going to a 21 degree pitch. Any help from you seasoned veterans would be greatly appreciated.

Something isn't right with your performance and going to a 21" prop will not solve it. Your WOT rpms are about right with a 19" prop. What your are experiencing seems to be a somewhat common problem this year in reading back thru the threads. I would have the prop checked or borrow another one to try out before spending the $$ on a new one.

Yes if you back iff the throttle while your trimmed up for max speed most boats will start to plow causing you to have to get back on the throttle hard and even trim down again to get back on plane. I think you would benefit from a ss prop but you are at the right pitch and size the main thing you will gain with the ss is no flex under hard throttle and generally a bit better finish so you so you will get a smooth spin less drag if this helps at all.

The finish on the stainless is alot better.
