I am having a new 454 7.4l dropped in my 1998 Z222 this week and need prop advice. Does anyone know the HP of the stock 454 back in 1998?? I am currently turning 21 pitch prop at 5400 RPM maxed out which seems a bit high. The new motor will have 400hp and I'm thinking about a 25 pitch.. Please give me some advice.. Top speed on the 21p last year on a 12 year old motor was right at 70mph. I'm thinking with the extra HP and 25p prop I can hit 80mph..

I believe it was 330hp in 1998 and the WOT range was 4200 - 4600.

Uhm yeah Mikeyt is right and if you were spinning that old bbc at that range wow she was a good motor redline on stock bbc to my knowledge was about 5kish 5200 I think you were screamin her I would deffinately prop up and try and stay at 5k max unless you have done something to the motor to rev that high for extended periods just my opinion sounds like a fun boat. My last boat I was running a 400hp sbc in a 20 footer with a 21 only took her to 5500 a few times wrong wave would have been scarey lol.

I would go with a Merc Mirage 21 or better yet 23" pitch wheel.
