Default newbie prop ?

Picked up a 1994 Talari z210 w/ 5.7 yamaha engine and outdrive a couple weeks ago. have had her out the past two weekends and every things seems to be fine. Boat came with a 15 inch 15 pitch 3 blade Alum prop. With this prop the boat will turn around 5200 rpms at W.O.T. While cleaning up in the engine bay last night i found a placard that says W.O.T rpms should be between 4200 and 4600 rpms. We will using the boat mainly to do a little tubing and some skiing so top end speed is not a concern, but should i be getting a diff prop to bring the W.O.T rpms in to the factory specified operating range? And if so what prop would you guys recommend?

Thanks,
Daryn

A 15" pitch is a little too much and you are overworking your engine. With each 1" increase in pitch you will drop your WOT rpms by 200 or so. I would suggest you look at a 17" 3 blade or an 18" 4 blade which will give you a little more top end, drop your rpms to the 4600-4800 range and shouldn't sacrifice your towing ability.

Mikeyt, thanks for the info. The prop I am looking at is 4 bladed 18 pitch with a 14 1/8" diameter. Will switching from a 15" diameter have any effects on performance?
