Prop Question ?

Hello All.

Can someone tell me the recomended prop for a 95 272 barchetta 454 W/ 385 Hp? It has a 15 1/4" x 21 pitch ss , on now, and seems to work fine.
When I look up a prop listing, it keps comming up with a 14 1/4"?

I want to buy a spare, But I'm not sure what size to get.
Can anyone tell me the manufacturer's recomended size?
W/O trimming up, and a lot of old gas, I was getting 44 mph, and 4000 rpm max.
thanks for any info.

Hi karmann,

It does sound like you're a bit over propped at 4000 rpm max, but before you go out and buy a new on, you should do the WOT test properly (bad gas and improper trim can make a huge difference).

I read somewhere (still trying to locate it), the WOT RPM test should be performed with two people aboard, no additional gear and a 1/4 tank.

So empty (pump) out the "old" gas and refill 1/4 tank with fresh gas, get a passenger and go out on the water. When you get up on plane, trim out the boat for best speed and read the max RPM. Once you have the correct WOT RPM, you can determine if you need a different prop.

So go ahead and do the test and get back to us, OK?

Hello Willie

What should the RPM's be at max?
Do you know what prop would have came on this boat from the factory?
thanks

Re: Prop Question ?

4400-4800 is the standard WOT range for that motor.

What kind of drive do you have? I suspect a Bravo, but which one?

Re: Prop Question ?

karmann,
I have a 27' with a 496 HO 425hp bravo1.
A few more horses, but not a huge difference. I run a Rev-4 21" for water sports and a heavy load, and a Mirage+ 23" for long distance cruising/top-speed.
I strongly agree with WetWilly on the retest prior to buying. I would think you should be getting better RPM's with your setup. There may be some other issues involved.
Just because a dealer sales a boat and prop together doesn't mean it is the best combination!

Re: Prop Question ?

I also wanted to purchase a spare prop for my 2006 SX21. I sent an email directly to the Mariah website and they put me in touch with one of their tech guys. He provided me withrecommendations on the prop and pitch. Just a thought you might want to try.l
