Need new prop...Help!
 

Hey Everybody,

Ready for the hot summer? We can't wait- so we ran into a little mess this past weekend, and now need to replace the prop. Bought a mercruiser 3 blade aluminum replacement but it doesn't fit the way the old one did-I guess theres a small gap all around. We have no way of reading markings on old prop as it is pretty worn and of course boat shop insisted it should fit. Any suggestions, I have info on this boat either. Its a mercruiser 4.3L and has like 180 or 190HP. We just returned the prop and now trying to find something fast. Should we stick to a 3 blade or 4 blade?:confused:

Are you sure you cant read the existing prop markings? Usually they are located on the back side of the hub which is a fairly well protected area. I'm not quite sure what you meant by "theres a small gap all around" though. Your boat likely had a 14.25" x 19" or a 14.25" x 21" prop on it. Note the diameter could be a 1/4" either way (ie 14.50 x 19). If you liked the way the damaged unit performed i would buy the same one and i would stick with a 3 blade prop.
