original prop

Need some help, Just bought a 1997 Talari 242, 7.4 L with br1. The last owner installed a custom stainless prop. I would like to go back to alumimium, just because I fear that if I strike a rock, it would damage the leg. does anyone know the specs of the original prop?

Colin Logie,
I don't think you will be happy with the performance of a aluminium prop on that large of boat and engine combo! Go with a SS prop with the Flo-Torq II Hub Kit. It will give the protection you need.
I think with that engine and the Bravo1 you will be spinning hubs on a aluminium prop.

What are the specs on the current prop? Usually the switch from aluminum to stainless is a direct match numbers wise, assuming you are going with the same # of blades.

I think the fear of drive damage due to a strike is largely overblown. Most modern props use the Flo-Torq rubber hub system, which is designed (amongst other things) to protect the drive from damage in the event of a impact.

You will see better performance from a SS over an aluminum, especially on the 7.4L + heavy boat combination.

Just my 0.02.

Re: original prop

I tried three props through BBlades.com.
http://www.bblades.com/props/therightprop.cfm
For $25 plus shipping they sent me a prop to try out. I think it was well worth the money to know which prop worked best on my boat. I ended up with a 21" rev-4 and a 23" mirage plus and a lot of knowledge from Brett (the owner). I would like to have a lab-finished 25" mirage plus. but that is BIG $$$
