Default High RPMs

Boat starts and runs at slow speed but as I increase the throttle it does not speed up and the RPMs go up. Slow to low speed and power but the RPMs increase. I will be at 3-4000rpms and won't be moving but 5mphs. Any one have an idea what could cause that?

Worn hub in the propeller. Sounds odd though... no other noises or issues?

Can be that the shear pin in the prop has broke. Did you hit anything? Put it in drive and see if you can turn the prop by hand. Oh yeah dont have it running.

You might think I'm a nut but I had the same thing happen to me. The boat would start and run great. idol speed was good with good rpm, give the gas to it and the rpm would go up but no speed. Come to find out that when I had the starter replaced they did not put a marine grade starter in it and the wiring was off. One starter had 4 wires and the one they put only had 3. Anyway replaced the starter myself with the correct one and that ended the trouble. I don't know if you have had any of that kinda work done but there it is in a nutshell.

Thanks for the info. I will look into it and see if that solves the problem. I will let you know.
