How badly do my props need to be reworked?
Bought this new-to-me 1997 Z272 a couple weeks ago. I inquired about the prop condition during our initial walkaround and was told that it could use a little touch-up but in general it was in working order. After doing some research on my own regarding propeller efficiency and watching several videos of props being reworked, I've decided I'm not happy at all with my propellers condition.
I'm not concerned about it being a brand new prop again, but I'm more concerned with concentricity issues that will lead to imbalances and premature bearing wear. So, all this being said, give me the dirty truth: how terrible are my props in their current state? :( I got a shot of all 6 blades but left one photo out as it was in the best condition of the 6 (but still lightly damaged). http://lstwo.com/images/54909179619619784679.jpg http://lstwo.com/images/90872553335244782823.jpg http://lstwo.com/images/81568181457861729230.jpg http://lstwo.com/images/34067916740195363661.jpg http://lstwo.com/images/78159838139282039032.jpg |

Ouch. New one might be needed

Re: How badly do my props need to be reworked?
Was the boat in salt water before, like the Houston/Galveston area? It has some corrosion that suggests the anodes are spent. They should be zinc or aluminum if from a salt water area. If you will be using the boat in Lake Conroe mostly (or fresh water anywhere), I would get rid of the present anodes and replace them with magnesium ones.
You might be able to get the props repaired but with 2-3 blades per prop needing attention, that may cost as much as new ones. To be honest, I suspect the bearings in the foot cost less than the props. |

Those are repairable. Either go to a local prop shop and get a quote or email a company those photos and see what they say. BBlades, PropDoc, etc. there are quite a few reputable craftsmen out there- it is not rocket science. Even a Google search of Prop shops in your area. You might be surprised what you find.

Definitely repairable by a pro, should be a few hundred to get them reconditioned to like new. If you run them as is you will do damage to that very expensive B3 lower unit.

That's pretty bad, with the size of those chips I'd be concerned with the hub, looks like a good emergency prop to have on hand if you're in desperate need Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

BBlades will get them looking like new. They do great work. Boat Propellers - Lab Finishing, Mercury, Hering Propellers and More!
