Default Blackfin

100_1852.jpg

100_1850.jpg I know Wet Willy was I think going to try the Blackfin on a Bravo drive but since mine needs some work I ordered it up and it's here according to UPS so hopefully tomorrow or Saturday I will have it on. Ok got home it's here the reason I hope will show in the pics for this project. As I looked over the skeg area closer I noticed it seemd to be miss shaped and saw, some heavy grinder marks. Looking at other Bravo 3 skegs I noticed a fair amount missing actually.

mine was broke when I bought it. Although not that bad. It cost $275 to have an all new keel welded on and painted.

I'll try out this black fin for the Bravo owners and report on it. I have it here now if the weather would get hot I could do it calls for 72hrs warm and dry.

I'll send some hot weather your way. I don't think it's been below 100 here for about 3 weeks now...

Ok here it is what I did wether or not it stays on after three weeks in the water we will have to see.Steps 1-4 not on the box really.

Step1. Not on the box but imo should be when dealing with vehicles that have any type protectant on them I washed it with warm water and soap.

Step 2. An acitone wash down as well.

Step 3. Another wash with soap and water.

Step 4. Wax and grease remover.

Ok the rest are pretty much on the box will say what is not.

Step 5. Test fit to make sure it fits and clears the prop mark the top of the fin with a pencil. Also make sure there is clearance for the drain plug on the outdrive.

Step 6. Sand down area well file down any sharp edges or spurs.

Step 7. Not on box, acitone wipe one more time ( I could be paranoid).

Step 8. Tape about an 1/8 of an inch above the pencil line aswell as tape the drain plug as a precaution. Tape about the same amount below the top of the fin. This will aid in clean up or so they say.

Step 9. Apply glue with a large bead on the pencil mark, and to edges and zig zag pattern the entire area the fin will be in contact with.

Step 10. Position the fin making sure it clears the prop one more time, smooth off any excess glue making a smooth air tight bond between the fin and the skeg. Use duct tape to secure it in place for 72 hours.

Step 11. Not on the box again I found the glue seemed to shrink slightly so I re-applied a second coat and smoothed it out once more. This may not happen to everyone not sure just thought I would mention it.100_1853.jpg

100_1855.jpg Hope it works and is helpful.

Ok heres a little up date thanks to Dredd for the hot weather thus far on my vacation.

Well the Blackfin lasted about 40hrs it did get a couple little bumps or scrapes when loading and unloading off shore seemed fine. Brought it around from dock to the trailer to load and it was gone, just popped off all the adhesive on the skeg was still place just looks like the carbon fibre didn't adhere to the fin itself to well.
