Captains call side exhaust 98 shabah 180

Well at least im learning to find the proper forums!
Ok... Before i make a purchase, had anyone done the side exit thru hull exhaust on the 98 shabah?
under the staggered body area theres a flat surface.
Ive seen it come out the transom, if anyone can share pictures to give a general idea of what can be done!
Thanks
Cory

I think what you'll find is it's very expensive to customize the exhaust to exit out the sides, and if it's not properly done, you can ingest water back into the engine and completely destroy it. That's probably why you haven't seen any Mariahs with side-exit exhaust. Your best bet (as well as easiest & cheapest) would be to exit out the transom.

However, if you haven't priced this out at all, I'll give you a little heads up, to get a fully functional system, expect to pay around $2k, which may, (or may not) include professional installation. The OEM exhaust tips alone are around $400-700. The performance gains are absolutely minimal (less than 1mph increase), and while it does sound cool, you need to become more aware of the noise your boat is putting out, since you can legally be ticketed in certain areas for noise pollution. Do some searching around the site and you'll see people's experiences. Most people who are considering this end up saving the $$ and using it to fill the gas tank for the season... I'd encourage that too.

Great advice. Thanks for taking the time! Ive done some pricing and yes you are right, its more about the showmanship than any performance gains. Ive never heard a thru hull exhaust in person, but it seemed like a cool upgrade. The idea of a transom still looks nice, and yes the cost of product and installation is north of 2300 dollars.
