Bravo 1 Shift Issue Question

Have a Talari 240z with the 454EFI engine and Bravo 1 outdrive. Was having a bumping when going from reverse into neutral and sometimes it would not go into reverse. Had to try several times. Had the cables replaced. Doing same. Had cables readjusted. Now the bumping is from forward into neutral. Runs fine at high speeds. Had u joints, bellows, gimbal replaced. Using merc hi performance gear oil. Change every season. Just drained and filled the gearcase with Marvel Mystery oil to soak for a few days. Will refill with fresh oil shortly. I read somewhere not to shift a bravo unless it was running. I didn't know. Mine shifts fine on the trailer into forward. But won't shift into reverse at all on the trailer. That's with it not running. Everyone keeps telling me it is the cone clutch which has to be bought in the entire gear kit $1500 parts and another 500-600 in labor costs. This seems rediculous. I may have 200 hours. Serial # on outdrive is OF407637

Re: Bravo 1 Shift Issue Question

Check the shift fork at drive end. From what I have seen they sometimes break or bend , possibly causing the symptoms you describe.
As for cost of the cone clutch pack replace , after a bit of online research , price is in the range of fair.
Bravos aren't cheap , and neither are parts or labor , as you can imagine.:shakehead:
