Fuel Pump

Hey guys, I have been trying to figure out a solution to my vapor lock issue and have narrowed it down to 2 possible solutions. I have read that changing to an electric fuel pump would solve the problem, however I didn't know if an inline fuel cooler would also help to solve the problem? It seems as though this would be the cheaper route!

Has anyone made the change to the electric fuel pump? If so what were your results and how hard was it to switch over?

Any advice would be much appreciated!!:wink_thumbup:

I should add that I have a 95 Z202 Alpha One.

I'd just put a electric on , insulate the line to carb , and be done with it.
I'll bet that route is cheaper than a inline cooler setup too. Plus you never know if the cooler is going to fix the vapor lock. You know the electric pump will fix it.

Yeah that is what I was leaning towards. Just nervous since I haven't done it before...guess I will just have to do my research on here before working on it!

I got faith.:wink_thumbup:
It's pretty straight forward.

To go electric (correct install) you will need an oil pressure switch to power on a dedicated fuel pump relay, I highly recommend using a marine pump as the U.S.C.G will check it if you are ever boarded. You will need to fabricate all fuel lines. This wont stop vaporlock though which is caused by fuel boiling in the carb and creating high pressure. You need a phenolic carb spacer or find out why the carb is getting so hot in the first place. Are you running a 160 thermostat?

A little clarification on the oil pressure switch, it creates an open circuit with no oil pressure (engine off) to prevent the pump from running. When you crank the engine and a predetermined oil pressure is achieved the switch closes and the pump turns on.

I hope this will help someone having the same issue as i have been having. My boat would run perfectly for as many hours as you needed, but once I would stop for a bit it would not want to restart. It would start up and die. After sitting for a while it would start up and run perfectly. Did alot of reading on this and the solution I tried worked. Mercruiser check valve 1 1/4'' for $85. It goes inline on your water intake hose between fuel cooler and thermostat housing. It keeps the hot water from running back down to fuel cooler and boiling fuel. Now that I have spent $85 plus shipping Im hoping to save someone some money. Look on amazon for Campbell Mfg SLC-125 Acetal Polymer Spring Loaded Check Valve $13.09 with free shipping. All you will need is fittings for water hose and put in you own drain plug. I do have a picture if someone can tell me how to post it. Hope this will help someone. Put valve in yesterday and did not run blower fan just to try and make it hot in the engine compartment and not 1 issue. Ran boat all day..:wink_thumbup:
