97 Z222 Shabah Speaker Size/ Replacement
Hello Everyone,
I have looked everywhere in the forums for this information but cannot seem to find what I am looking for. I was given the go-ahead to do a stereo system in the Z.... :wink_thumbup: With that being said I measured (speaker surround only) the original speakers currently in the boat and they measure out to be 4.5"... Is this correct? Has anyone installed a larger lets say 5.25 speaker without extensive modification? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Brandon |

Brandon ,
I am pretty sure the guys have been running 6.5s , but hang in there , there are quite a few members with kick a-- systems in their Mariah that I'm sure will chime in soon. :wink_thumbup: |

Re: 97 Z222 Shabah Speaker Size/ Replacement
You may get a five and a quarter inch speaker in there the hole is slightly larger than the small speakers that come in the boat however I installed 6 inch Kenwood and had to cut the holes bigger I did it with a jigsaw it was very easy and the $99 Kenwoods sound really really good I must say

I also installed an $89 Kenwood head unit from best buy that sounds good as well with iPod control, front input, usb input and Bluetooth....

Yup 6.5 Memphis Audio and used a dremel tool... Take your time and keep a few extra bits around.

Re: 97 Z222 Shabah Speaker Size/ Replacement
I have a '95 202 Shabah. It also had 4.5" speakers, that were partially tucked underneath the cushion that runs down the side.
Due to the fact that the new 6.5" speakers stuck out a little farther, and the contour of the inner wall turning out; I decided to just leave the 4.5"'s as hole fillers. I moved back to the flat spot immediately adjacent to the rear seat and cut a new hole with a drimmel tool and one of those multipurpose bits like DOACLNR suggested. Very easy. I also installed new wires for the speakers as well, which was also relatively easy. New speaker location is clearly visible, (which I prefer) while the original location was practically not visible at all. |
Re: 97 Z222 Shabah Speaker Size/ Replacement
On my 2nd Mariah as well. The '00 202 needed to have holes cut larger. As others have said, I used a jigsaw and a lot of patience. Came out great, though.
The '99 Z302 had existing 6 1/2" speakers, so its been a piece of cake. Good luck! |

Sounds good. Thank you everyone for your input and advice. I really dont want to take the 4.5" route. I will be enlarging the openings. Ill post pics upon completion. Thanks again everyone for the help!

Re: 97 Z222 Shabah Speaker Size/ Replacement
I have a 2001 Z212 that currently have 5.25 kickers in and would like to make changes and add 6.5 speakers. My question is this possible with the way side panels are molded and vinyl trim above speaker? If anyone has done this would like any info and pics of 6.5 speakers installed. It would be greatly appreciated.
