I use a Manfrotto arm with my Sony video cam clamped to my windshield. I flip the display back at me so I can watch what's going on behind me on the screen. Works well. Also mount the wife's digital SLR to it as well in video mode.

Omg that manfrotto arm.kit is expensive!! How well.does it work.for a 35mm as far as stillness of the video?

Yeah they are not cheap but the clamp has a gorilla grip. I have never had any issues with excessive shaking of the camera only as much as your windshield or boat will shake. they are rock steady.
You can sometimes pick these up for less than $100 on EBay. Manfrotto Bogen 143 Magic Arm w Manfrotto 035 Base Super Clamp | eBay This one does not have the head just the clamp. But expect to pay between $100-$130 for the complete setup ready to mount a camera. These things will clamp to anything...
My wife takes photos professionally and she had a few of these laying around so I made one disappear for the boat.

I'm cheaping out. I guess it's the red neck.side fI e.coming out lol. This is My homemade mount out of drum hardware and a small tripod. This is for my Flip HD Mino.... I think it may vibrate too much though and I don't think I'd trust it to hold my Nikon lol. Well see what happens.
