First Launch of the Season!

So this weekend it was between 55* and 70* and I got the Shabah out! Took some pics, thought I'd share.

and the pulling machine! Detailed it for 3 hours this weekend, lookin' good! ;)

and to finish it off, I let my brother go out for a spin while I went to get food and this is what happens... I'm pissed! Took it to our local Marine Service Shop and a replacement prop is $248.00!!! He's 28 y/o bear in mind, I figured he'd have common sense to operate a boat, guess I learned my lesson! :(

I'm jealous that you were able to get her out on the water this weekend. I'm still about a month away from even getting mine out of storage.

Too bad about the prop damage though but i happens to all of us sooner or later.....

Mark 04-07-2008 06:27 PM

What was he doing cutting firewood?:head_on_wall:

CameronBrian2120 04-07-2008 06:40 PM

He explained it to me as this:

I was taking pictures of the shore lines when I didn't notice we drifted so far and when I started the engine, I felt a shudder and then it went away...

So I take it he started it on a damn rock! And know he says he's only giving me $50 for the replacement prop!?! I know who won't be driving it this summer...AT ALL!

indykoch 04-07-2008 07:47 PM

You might be able to have it repaired for approximately that much. Take it to a prop shop or even West Marine. It's not a bad idea to have a spare also.

Nice Jeep by the way. I'm in the process of buying my parent's off of them... 2000 Limited, every option with only 53,000 miles and not a scratch!

My boat's a bit bigger, how does it tow yours?

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread.

Z275 04-07-2008 07:50 PM

Since you have to replace it I would put the money in a stainless prop. It will be the best money you spend!

CameronBrian2120 04-07-2008 08:03 PM

I was thinking stainless, but I wasn't sure, I already put in the order for an OEM replacement 14.25 and 21p... Alot more $$$ by the way too :(

My jeep is an 03, 4.7L, tows my boat awesome, really no struggle at all, my friends 4.0L Cherokee had sometime with it, but yea, not a big deal at all with my Jeep. Sounds like a sweet deal on the 2000 though. Love mine to death.

Z275 04-07-2008 08:13 PM

By the way, where did you take it out yesterday? I went over and checked out Caesar Creek and it was flooded worse than I've ever seen it. The whole beach was underwater (a lot of water) and the docks were taken down since the water was way above their max height. People were still launching their boats onto the cement lauch ramp though. Too risky for me to try! Plus one person would have to swim out to the boat after parking the car in VERY cold water.

CameronBrian2120 04-07-2008 08:17 PM

Haha, yes all the ramps were closed, but there must have been 25 boats out on the water, little chilly doing about 40mph+ but felt great being on the lake! :)~

Yea I went to the steep ramp, forget it's name, let's just say I'm very, very careful when putting the boat in the water and getting in it without getting wet, haha. One guy there drove over the concrete ramp, that was quite a sight.

And yes Caesar's Creek was up like 8 and a half feet! Crazy!

Sounds like he owes you some sweat equity as well. I think a full polish and wax of the hull would be a good start... :wink_thumbup:

I tow with a 2K Limited and the 4.7L Quadra-Drive. No problems at all.

I too, love my Jeep. Spent the better part of Saturday changing all the driveline fluids. It needs a detailing in the worst way, but I haven't yet taken the snow tires off of it... < /hijack>.

ShabahZ280 04-07-2008 08:30 PM

Good to see you got the boat out this weekend! Nice WJ, I used to have a 99 Limited with the 4.7L, towed my Z250 with it for a year before upgrading to the Excursion.

I know of two propeller shops in Cincinnati that could repair it for you.

Pitt's Propeller Service in Newtown, OH 513-272-2266
Delta Propellers in Cleves, OH 513-467-0601

I remember I did something similar in my old Sea Ray, and I want to say it only ran me about $75 to get it repaired. Good luck and let us know how it turns out!

CameronBrian2120 04-07-2008 08:41 PM

I actually am going to "re-sell" it to the shop where I ordered the replacement from, they offered me $80 bucks for it, so what the hey, brings the cost of $248 down! Which is a plus!

dudders 04-08-2008 03:35 AM

A bit ofF subject here, but I am thinking of getting a Jeep Grand Cherokee, but heard they are heavy on fuel, what do you guys reckon seeing as how you drive them all the time.

My father is a long-long-long time experienced boater and I've learned the hard way to value his quiet comments. On stainless steel props, he didn't question the performance gain, but he said "if you hit a rock with a stainless prop, you bust your shaft or your motor, not your $200 prop." If your bro had "played rock" with a stainless prop it might have been a far worse outcome! Not speaking from direct experience, just sharing the advice. NICE-looking boat BTW!

I'd say it really depends where you boat most often. The biggest problem with most lake boaters is mud, gravel, buried trees, and floaters. Those can destroy an aluminum prop in no time and leave you stranded. The cost of buying 2 aluminum props will get you a stainless one which can stand up to that kind of stuff very well. Stainless props also tend to give you better performance and especially gas mileage after a decent amount of use because they don't deform and chip up like the aluminum ones. Just my $.02 :)

I was told this a couple of times as well. However I've heard a lot of wisdom to dispell this as a non-issue now that most props have a hub that will slip before real damage to the internals becomes an issue.

Tony: I have a 2000 Grand Cherokee Limited with the 4.7L gas. I get between 11L/100km highway and 16L/100km city. pm me if you want more info.
