Educate me on Mariah and motor please
1 Attachment(s)
I am curious as to why I would have a 1999 5.7L LX carbureted motor in my 1997 Mariah Shabah Z222???
The only possibility that I can think of is the original motor only lasted 2 years, which isn't very likely. Feel free to spread some knowledge on what you know from these 3 pics.... This is on the block... .Attachment 5472 |

This is on top of flame arrestor... Notice the serial number does not match the block serial number from the picture above?!

Re: Educate me on Mariah and motor please
My guess would be the original engine was replaced at some point.
Blown , Winterization Issue , etc. What is the number on the drive(Transom)? |
Re: Educate me on Mariah and motor please
I'll check on that and get back to ya.

Re: Educate me on Mariah and motor please
So the serial number on the transom is 0K113455... The 0 could be and O but it looks like a 0(zero).
And the sterndrive appears to have some numbers that start 0K...end with 358. It's a bit faded and marked on port side upper housing. |
Re: Educate me on Mariah and motor please
The original motor may have died just a couple of years ago and the prior owner simply replaced with another used motor (or block) for the reasons Larry suggested. Unless you know the history its unlikely you will know when that happened and before you suggest it, it wouldn't have come from the factory with a motor 2 yrs newer than the boat...
I dont see this as much of an issue. You have a '99 motor and for any replacement parts you will need the motor's serial number to ensure you get the correct part for the model year. If you are really curious about your boat, you can send a private message to ShabahZ280 with your hull ID#. We have most (but not all) of the build sheets which provides the model, trim package, colors and engine info along with the dealership name that originally received the boat (& when they received it) from the factory. |
Re: Educate me on Mariah and motor please
+1 on the replacement engine.
The tag on the engine block which has the letters RM in the serial number makes me believe it was a "ReManufactured" block. They probably just pulled the old engine out, and either sent it out to be remanufactured, or purchased a new remanufactured block, and put the old flame arrestor on (since remanufactured blocks don't come with any accessories)... As long as it was done properly, I'd say there's nothing to worry about. I'll check the HIN info when I get home today and report back. |
