To answer your question....... it is a simple 2" hole for the gauge and a ground and power wire hookup to "key on" only tap. Usually at ignition switch or back at starter solenoid "run" post.

I was reading on another site where it's activate when the oil pressure gauge is working (meaning the engine is actually running)

That ain't a bad idea Oregon. I think the gauge requires at least 6v to operate. Have you seen this actually? Gotta look into that. Where did you run across this?

'93 240Z w/960 hours. If the key gets left on the meter keeps rolling. My single deep cycle starting battery last about 25 hours when key is left on!
