Battery Suggestions?

Hey Guys,

I was on the blue sea systems website considering putting in a 2nd battery so I dont have to worry about the main battery dying while were tied up using the radio, etc. Didn't know if anyone had any thoughts about their "add a battery" kits I see on their website?

I already have a M-series 4 position switch from Blue Sea systems that I havent put on yet (have to replace my current post style battery wires to an eyelet so I can use the switch). That being said I was considering installing this the only downside would be I would have to manually switch back and forth so I dont drain one battery...I guess I could install a charging relay to make my life easier...

Any thoughts/words of wisdom/install advice would be much appreciated!

(I have a 95 Mariah Z202...not sure if that would make any difference on any advice!)

Thanks!!

1 Attachment(s)
I added a battery on my 96 talari z240 and am happy with it. I have the 4 position switch and a battery isolator. The isolator is rigged up to the ignition switch and uses one battery for cranking the motor and leaves the other one to power all the other stuff. Both batteries stay charged from the engine's alternator and it wasn't a big headache to install. Here is a pic of my installation. May be kind of hard to see, but both batteries, the switch and isolator are mounted in an open space beside the engine. Attachment 5429

Thanks! So is your switch constantly in the "both" position then?

I'll have to look to make sure, but I'm thinking it's not. I think I leave it in the one position. Whichever the battery I have selected is the one that sends fire to the engine

Maybe motoxxx will chime in here and give some input. He's the one that sold me the isolator and knows quite a bit about them. It's been a few months since I installed mine.

I would run a interstate battery. That's all I run in all my vehicles never had a problem with them. Also have a very good warrenty.

Glad it worked for you Paul! I have yet to install mine. I got tied up in about fifty other projects and that went to the back burner.
To answer the question which position to run the switch it sounds like one would run the switch at the "both" location for an emergency start per the PDF instructions Here under the bold printed "Operations".
That is just what I found after a quick glance so I may not be correct in that! Ill read into id some more and see what comes of it.

Re: Battery Suggestions?

i put the same switch on mine, it has battery 1 battery 2 and 1+2. i have no isolator on them. i have 2 interstate marine batteries. one ill use for startup and the other ill use for music when stopped and occasionally alternate the process. i have my batteries out of the way so no one can accidentally switch them while the boat is in motion. the main reason i got this switch is to switch everything to off when the boat is out of the water to aviod battery drain from phantom power draw like the radio.

i would like to put the isolator on thou. another project.
